This activity started off when I had undertaken three deliveries from HSL – Vizag. Two of these were LOA 45m 100pax inter-island ferries to Port Blair / Andamans and the third was a Harbour Tug for Goaport.
Subsequently I have done a series of deliveries from New Mangalore Port and Tuticorin Port of these Ports Harbour tugs, to CSL-Kochi. These tugs are usually manned for their Harbour duties according to Harbour Craft Rules.
For the sea passage of 24 hours to CSL-Kochi for their routine D/Docking, the Port/s require by the rules to deploy an additional team of Deep Sea qualified officers – viz: Master, 2 Mates, 2 Marine Engineers. The contract/s for this deployment is on tender basis and as when these tenders come up, we bid for them.
We also deployed multi-member Marine Team/s for Pipavav Shipyard’s DP1 new building/s H025 & H026 for their (4 to 5 day duration) sea trials.
We are the sole Boat Valuer for The Mangalore Division of Canara Bank (the founding location of one of India’s largest banks). Our assignments in this regard is to ascribe a value to the (local fishing) boats which are mortgaged to Can-Bank.
These (powered) Fishing boats are in the region of 10m to 23m in length, built out of FPR, Wood or Steel. They are either Long-Liners, Purse Seiners or Trawlers. Our valuations are initiated by Canbank on account Boat Owners wanting to renew their mortgages or the bank initiating possession proceedings against defaulters.
We pioneered the concept of river cruises in the rivers – Nethravathi & Gurpur (Phalguni) , within which the city of Mangalore is situated. The River Cruiser boat is a 10 man / 18footer, built here in Mangalore. With a mould of some previous design, I have modified & lengthened the same to suit my purpose, including fitting a double bottom. The craft is registered with the Old Port Authorities and is insured for Hull/Machinery & passengers. While we had monopoly in the setting up days – we now have competition and since imitation being the best form of flattery, we are glad that the waterside part of Mangalore is now being showcased.
